The news has had lots of stories regarding 23andMe. Many news outlets have stated 23andMe is declaring bankruptcy, so they stoke the fears that all the private data will somehow be released to the public. Some are declaring everyone with a 23andMe account should delete their data now.

I wanted facts rather than fear.

The calls to delete data now is called fearmongering by experts. Leah Larkin is a DNA expert who knows a lot more than I do, and her website posted more information for those who have concerns.

See Leah Larkin’s post 23andMe is Reorganizing. It’s Okay.

She explains it much better than I could. Chapter 11 reorganizing is different than what most are saying, and the accounts must be kept private. So, as in all things genealogy, we relay on the experts to better inform us. Read her post and make your own decision.
